Thursday, 11 August 2011

A big congratulation to the Nigeria wedding industry as our very own Friends of the House; Funke Bucknor-Obruthe of Zapphire Events (Event Planner),  my wedding make up artist Banke Meshida-Lawal of BM Pro (Makeup artist), and a dear sister of mine Tayo Adeniji of Buttercup (Wedding and Engagement Cake) all  featured last weekend on CNN International’s Inside Africa show focused on Nigerian Weddings!
The  wedding which was planned by Zapphire events did Nigeria very proud by showing all the glamor, glitz, beauty of the rich Nigerian Culture. The Couple featured were Prince Taiwo Olashore and Olawunmmi Taiwo.

A new trend which is fast becoming popular at parties in Nigeria are Sweet stations especially cupcakes.
Looking back I think my very first sweet station was done about 2 years ago at one of my client Foluso’s wedding, who is a sweet tooth and wanted that part of her to be reflected at her wedding.
The sweet station  has however  evolved over the years with new designs and yummy yummy sweets, candy cottoncandy ,icecream, chocolate fountains to mention a few Yes I must confess i have a sweet tooth!

I introduce you to two of the leading ladies making waves with their cupcakes and chocolate in Nigeria.
Ironically i was the wedding planner at both their weddings! Guess what?

Vendor Scoop: Fifi's Sweet Sophistication

Monday, 30 August 2010

It was my dad's 70th birthday recently, so I figured I'd celebrate by featuring a cake designer who's quite dear to me. Fisayo Gbenle-Olaleye the designer behind Fifi's Oven, is quite a remarkable artist. Not only are her cakes delicious, but I love the way she uses her materials in a completely unexpected way.
Each cake is incredibly elegant and unique. When flipping through her portfolio, I was immediately struck by her use of fondant to create interesting texture and pattern. What really stands out and impresses me the most was the use of fondant as though it were fabric – many of the cakes had interesting drapes, pleats, delicate petals and ruffles that created a truly unique signature design element. Fifi's Oven is based in Lagos and always professional, they are definitely one of those vendors who think outside the box. Take a look at some of the other amazing work Fisayo has done, either on her website   or facebook group
Pure Elegance!
